Location
Hangzhou is a sub-provincial city and is located in the Yangtze River Delta in the People's Republic of China. It is the capital of Zhejiang province. Its location is 180 km southwest of Shanghai. In the year 2004 the City Municipality had a registered population of 6.5 million people.
Geography and climate
The city is located in northern Zhejiang province in eastern China; it lies at the southern end of the Grand Canal of China and on the plain of the mid-lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The climate is Humid Subtropical and the region experiences four distinctive seasons. The summers are hot and humid, while winters are relatively cool and dry.
Transport
The city has 4 bus stations (N, E, W, and S). There are frequent trains from Shanghai Zhan Railway station and from the new Shanghai South Station to the city. The city also has an extensive bus network and there are a large number of taxis that allow for quick and convenient travel within the city.

Airports
The City Xiaoshan International Airport is the principal airport serving the city. The airport is built on the southern shore of Qiantang River in the Xiaoshan district and is 27 km away from the downtown area. Many airlines land at and take off from the airport; some of them are Cathay Pacific, Air China, Japan Airlines and Shanghai Airlines.
